Welcome to the Yorkshire Mesh Radio Club (YMRC), a friendly, forward-thinking community of amateur radio enthusiasts from across Yorkshire.

We’re passionate about radio communication, mesh networking, LoRa, digital experimentation, and community connection. Whether you’re an experienced operator, a complete beginner, or just curious about how radio waves can link people across the world (or the next hilltop!), you’ll find a warm welcome here.

Who We Are
YMRC brings together people who share an interest in amateur radio and emerging technologies. Our members range from lifelong radio operators and engineers to those just discovering the hobby.

We believe in keeping the spirit of radio alive while embracing new frontiers — combining the best of HF, VHF, and UHF with modern mesh and digital systems.

The club is affiliated with the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) and upholds its principles of inclusivity, learning, and responsible operating.

What We Do
Our members are involved in a wide range of activities, including:
📡 Portable Operations – Taking our stations into the field, experimenting with antennas and equipment.
💻 Mesh & LoRa Networks – Exploring resilient communication through low-power, long-range digital systems.
🔧 Technical Builds – Designing and constructing custom antennas, repeaters, and experimental links.
🎙️ On-Air Events – Regular nets, contests, and social QSOs with fellow amateurs.
🤝 Community & Collaboration – Partnering with local groups, schools, and the Scouts to share knowledge and inspire the next generation.

Our projects often blend traditional RF techniques with cutting-edge networking — a perfect meeting point between classic amateur radio and modern digital innovation.

Why Join YMRC?
Joining the Yorkshire Mesh Radio Club means becoming part of a supportive, knowledgeable community that values learning, experimentation, and camaraderie.

  • As a member, you can:
  • Get hands-on experience with radio, electronics, and networking.
  • Learn from others who’ve been there, built it, and got the QSL card!
  • Take part in events, field days, and workshops.
  • Help grow mesh networks.
  • Give back by mentoring newcomers or supporting local community projects.
  • You don’t need to be an expert or even licensed to start, bring curiosity and enthusiasm!

Community & Collaboration
YMRC is proud to support local initiatives and partner with groups such as the Scouts and other community organisations. When working alongside these groups, we follow their safeguarding and welfare policies as well as our own, ensuring that everyone can take part safely and confidently.

Our club also maintains strong links with other regional clubs and the RSGB, sharing knowledge, ideas, and best practices across the amateur radio community.

Our Ethos
At the heart of YMRC is a simple idea: radio is about connection, between people, technologies, and ideas.

We value:

  • Curiosity – Keep learning, keep experimenting.
  • Inclusivity – Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience.
  • Respect – On the air, in person, and online.
  • Community – Sharing skills and supporting each other.

From a quick chat on the 2m band to building a Yorkshire-wide mesh link, every contact is a chance to learn something new.
